I initially bough the 21 degree driving iron. i expected it to be a good addition to the bag but had no idea it would be so great. Whenever i am not 100% behind hitting the driver on a certain hole, this club is the ultimate fairway finder. Thus i also picked up the 18 degree.
This will be a lengthy review, but for those who just want the executive summary, here it is: I am 62 years old and a 12 handicap. I have been fit for a number of iron sets: Ping G425, Mizuno JPX 921, Cobra Aerojet and Titleist T350s. The Haywood irons look, feel, and perform better than any of these other brands and cost about half as much. The customer service along the way was unbelievable and I really felt like a valued customer. I don't know where else you get such good customer service. If you are looking at purchasing irons from Mizuno, Srixon, Titleist, or Taylormade, I don't know why you wouldn't choose Haywood instead, especially if you are Canadian.
Ok, now for the full review:
- The customization options with Haywood are very good, and the club and shaft fitting guide is excellent. I know that I am 1 degree upright in my swing, so it was easy for me to select this, but I would suggest you go for a fitting somewhere local before ordering your Haywood irons.
- I tried the 7-iron program to see how I liked the Haywood SV.2 irons. I played with the 7 iron side by side with my Titleist 7-iron and it outperformed in these ways: extremely consistent distance, higher spin than the Titleist and stopped on a dime, better looking and feeling than any other iron I have tried (someone told me they look like Taylor Made P770s and the feel is even nicer than Mizunos), off-centre shots sounded different and the trajectory was much lower but there wasn't much loss of distance, the clubs have a slim topline for game improvement irons and do not look clunky at all. I use Shotcope tracking tags with my clubs and the Strokes Gained numbers with the Haywood 7-iron were quite a bit better than with my Titleist 7-iron, which surprised me.
So, after around 25 rounds with the 7-iron I decided to buy the rest of the irons and Haywood credited me for the price of the 7-iron. I had a couple of questions about the makeup of my full set and Thomas from Haywood was extremely helpful in answering my questions to make sure I ordered the best equipment possible. You can't get better customer service anywhere. Based on the Haywood survey, and Thomas' feedback, I ordered the SV.2/PD.1 combo set. I ordered Recoil dart graphite shafts with mid sized Haywood grips and had the clubs bent to 1 degree upright and .25" longer than standard.
I have now played around 30 rounds with the new irons and could not be happier with them. The feel of these clubs with on-centre strikes is sublime, they look gorgeous, and the distance control is really quite amazing - I mean like 2-3 carry yards of dispersion!
Here are a few more reflections of my experience with these irons:
I was at Golftown shortly after I received the set, just so I could
use their launch monitors to compare the Haywoods to the best of what they
had to offer. I tried the Callaway Apex Ai200s and the Srixon ZXi5s -
neither could compete with the Haywoods in terms of dispersion and the
feedback, particularly of the PD1 irons.
- The PD.1s, they fly incredibly high, land on a dime, and are very
consistent for distance when struck well, honestly within a few yards of
length dispersion. They also perform very well in windy conditions (my
course is very windy) in that if I am into a decent wind, I take one extra
club and a very strong wind is 2 extra clubs and the distances are spot on.
I also find that if the wind is behind, I don't take a club less and still
get the same distance, more or less, with the scoring irons.
- The very best thing about all of the irons, and especially the PD.1s
is the feedback. If I hit a shot right off the heel (almost the hozzle) or
the extreme toe, or the first groove, then ok, the results are poor, and
that it to be expected. But the best thing is slight mishits. If I am let's
say 1-1.5 cm towards the heel or toe,or hit the club above the 4th groove,
the sound feedback is very obvious, The vibration is strong, and the sound
is heavy. And yet, the loss of distance is not much. The flight path is
also much lower. This is all great feedback but without too much penalty.
And if you hit near the sweet spot, oh my, you are in golf heaven - no
vibration, beautiful sound, and very nice high flight. The best feeling and
sounding shots I have ever hit.
-The turf interaction of these clubs is really good. I play at a course with pretty bad fairways -basically a farm field that has been converted to a golf course and the
fairways are mostly clay soil. If you catch a shot heavy (which I do on a
fairly regular basis) then you pay a price, both in terms of distance,
direction of ball flight, and sometimes they hurt! The Haywood irons cut
through the ground pretty nicely and minimize the damage. When I hit a
heavy shot, my biggest concern is did I scratch the finish on the iron, and
I quickly clean off the mud.
In summary, buy these clubs - you won't regret it and you will save money and support a Canadian company.
Recently received my new Haywood wedges…they are awesome - solid feel, clean classic look, and dialled into my specs perfectly!. Communication during the order and build process was excellent, thanks Thomas.
24 rounds into the 2026 season in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia Canada. With outstanding spring weather this year the playing conditions are near perfect. Put my new Haywood Sv.2 irons (6-AW) into play right away. Have been extremely happy with the performance of the irons. Centre strikes feel like butter and the ball flies! Off centre strikes still go and no vibration up the shaft!
Started the season at an 8 handicap from the blue/white tees. Now playing to 6! I’m 71 years old. These tees are about 5900 yds. 7 iron is good for 145 yds and 6 iron 155+. Just last week scored 76-77-79 on three consecutive rounds. That was a first ever achievement! Best round to date this year is 75 which is a lifetime best!
My confidence is up a lot and my scores are lower than ever!

I’ve had Takomo 101ts, Ping G730s, and Titleist APT 1s… and I just hit the combo SV and PD combo from Haywood. Haywood blew them away! I kid you not!! Soft click. And sky high. Perfect draws. I had to sit down after hitting 10 balls. WOW! Wow! Best iron experience I’ve had. Speed up 5 MPH!
Played my second round with my new SV.2 irons. First round was a solid 9 over 81. First round of the year. Second round was nothing short of amazing! 4 over 76 with 4 birdies! Lifetime best all around!
Set up 3 birdies with the AW from 70-76 yds out, all within 3 feet of the pin.
I have confidence with these irons! They feel great when hit and the ball flies and I’ve noticed I’m getting “bite” on the greens which are quite firm right now.
I’m a 7 handicap now from the blue/white tees. At 71 years of age I can’t ask for much more!

Received my new Haywood SV.2 irons a few days ago. The order arrived within two weeks of placing the order. I did my fitting online. Quick and easy. The hardest part was choosing the shafts. After a lot of reading about the performance of the various shaft options I chose the True Temper Elevate 95 MPH steel shafts fitted with Haywood midsize grips. The irons are beautiful! Workmanship is first class! What you see on the website is exactly what you get! No gimmicks!
I had a chance to try them out at the local virtual golf facility yesterday. They feel and sound great when hit! I can’t wait to try them on the course, hopefully next week.

I have had my combo set of irons for about 6 weeks now, and I just love them. I am hitting my irons better than ever... they are consistent, forgiving and I love the feel of centre hits, and even off centre hits sound and feel good. My 'cap has dropped from 11 to 9, and I am playing the best golf of my life right now... I'm 79 years old and have shot my age or better 3 times since I got my new irons.
I would recommend (and have) these clubs to anyone who is shopping for new irons and wants to save a little money on a good looking and high quality product... and wants to buy Canadian.

I just purchased the PD1 irons and this is hands down the best set of irons I ever owned. The look and feel is Great! The golf ball just rockets off the face of the clubs and even on my miss hits the direction, distance and control is not disappointing at all. I have been playing golf for over 30 years and have played many top name brand clubs. My distance has increased 10 yards. I do recommend this irons. I love them so much I just ordered the wedges.
Driver Review
I highly recommend the Haywood Driver (senior shaft). I am hitting the ball farther & straighter with more forward spin. I am in the center of most fairways. I also recommend purchasing the adjustable weight set.
